AT Award Presentation

22/10/2021

Carolyn and Mark attended the long awaited AT Award presentation ceremony on Friday 24th September 2021. It was worth the 2 year wait!

Back in 2019 PTAL received the Highly Commended award for Excellence in Architectural Technology at CIAT’s AT Awards ceremony, recognising the high quality of our work on Woodmansterne Secondary School & Sixth Form.  The presentation of the award plaques to the school and the architectural team was delayed over the last 18 months but was finally able to take place this month.

Francesca Berriman MBE HonDTech FRSA, CEO of CIAT, presented the plaque to Carolyn Jamieson, Associate Director, and Sam Palin, Head Teacher of Woodmansterne Secondary & Sixth Form. Comments from the CIAT judging panel were relayed in the presentation speech, noting that "PTAL maintained the functionality of the different spaces and the acoustic comfort was suitably considered. The School has a high-performance building envelope with exceptional functional and robust design and detailing. The lengthened design process to shorten construction worked to an advantage ensuring admirable layouts and an observed flow of the building."

The visit to the school included a tour of the building by some of the pupils who have been at the school since it opened.  The team were delighted to receive positive feedback from pupils, staff members and the CIAT judges on the accessibility, functionality and inclusive approach of the school, some of the key criteria on which the award was based.

The school SENCO complimented the effectiveness of noise reduction throughout the building which has helped to create a calm atmosphere in the school, while the Head Teacher noted that the colour coded stairwells enabled the staff to manage the flow of pupils and was particularly useful during the pandemic.

We thoroughly enjoyed working on this project so it was great to see the school in action and we are immensely proud of the positive impact it has made on the pupils and the wider community.
