The expansion of Reigate Parish Church Primary School provides a brand new junior school alongside their existing infant school. This bypasses an additional transitional challenge for pupils at infant stage, helps the school attract the best teachers, plus of course deliver much needed places for the local authority.
The brief required new junior accommodation and a rationalisation of the external landscape, which would provide a 2FE primary school, and allow the school to educate the children all the way through KS2 and ready for secondary school.
The existing school was located within a single storey building on a significantly sloping site and with many technical challenges including limited access and amenity. Surrey County Council as freeholder of an adjoining vacant and overgrown “habitat” site, agreed to gift this to the school, to provide additional amenity. The expanded school is designed to central government guidelines, including BB103 for both the internal spaces and the external grounds.
We submitted for planning consent on July 2016. This left only 13 months to obtain planning approval, and build the project in time for the start of the academic year in September 2017. We worked closely with the SIPS provider, coordinating the services and structural disciplines to allow the system to go into production and be ready on site as the slab and frame completed.
The school completed on budget and on time in August 2017, and took its first pupils for the start of the 2017/18 academic year. The new building was formally blessed by Bishop Christopher, Bishop of Southwark, in a “Dedication” ceremony in October 2017.
In November 2018, the project received a Commendation from the Reigate Society.
